Heritage chickens ranging at MacGregor Valley Farm

Annapolis Valley · Nova Scotia

Heritage poultry,
raised the old way

We are a small family farm preserving rare and heritage chicken breeds — birds selected over generations to thrive outdoors, forage well, and live long, productive lives far from the industrial barn.

Our Values

Committed to preserving heritage breeds

These breeds were once common on every farm. As factory farms and hybrid genetics took over, they began to vanish — and with them, an irreplaceable piece of our agricultural heritage.

Conservation

We maintain breeding flocks of threatened breeds and strains, keeping their genetic lines alive for the farms of the future.

Stewardship

Heritage breeds carry robust health, mothering instincts, and foraging ability — biodiversity that future farms will need in a changing climate.

Natural Husbandry

All of our breeds are reproduced and genetically maintained through natural mating, raised outdoors on pasture at their own pace.

Our Breeds

Quality dual-purpose heritage birds

From the ancient Silver Gray Dorking to the stately Jersey Giant — every breed we keep earns its place on a working farm.

Life on the Farm

Pasture-raised in the heart of the valley

Our birds spend their days outside — foraging, dust-bathing, and doing what chickens have done for centuries. Slow growth and outdoor living build strong, healthy birds and better eggs.

For live birds, chicks, and hatching egg orders we can ship, deliver, or arrange a meet-up depending on your location.

While we grow our flocks through 2026, guinea fowl, built-to-order chicken tractors, and fresh eggs — $5 a dozen at the farm stand — are all available. Heritage chicken sales return in 2027.
